The Aberdeen Cougars scored first and never looked back, skating to a 5-1 victory over Lakeville North Friday night at a boys’ hockey tournament in Moorhead, Minn.
The Cougars got a goal each from five different players, including Braydon Jones, Avery Dean, Caleb Kranzler, Elias Altman and Charles Olson. Those goals, spread as evenly as possible over the three periods of play, were more than enough to snag victory for the Cougars.
“We probably outshot them 4-1,” said Cougars coach Jon Aldinger. “We were on the puck and forechecking and finally getting the idea that hard work pays off.”
Despite traveling with just 12 players, Aldinger said his team put forth a solid effort.
“The team is still looking tough,” he said. “The boys are still playing their butts off. It’s awesome.”
Aberdeen scored a goal in the first and two each in the final two periods for the win.
The Cougars return to action today for two games, taking on Moorhead at 11 a.m. and Centennial at 6:45 p.m.
“It’ll be a test (today) playing two games with 12 guys,” Aldinger said.
