After a scoreless first period, the Aberdeen Cougars boys hockey team had some lapses on defense that allowed Sioux Falls to take advantage as the Flyers would skate to a 7-1 win.
The Flyers opened the scoring at the 3:18 mark of the second on a goal by Grant Koerner. Sioux Falls made it a two-goal lead at the 4:39 mark on a Trey Ponto power-play goal. Cougars goaltender Matt Feiock did his part keeping his squad in the game, turning back 23 of 25 shots on goal in the first and second periods combined.
Sioux Falls broke the game open scoring back-to-back goals and three out of the next four to take a 5-1 lead. Aberdeen’s Braydon Jones tallied the only goal for the Cougars coming off the assist by Avery Dean at the 4:48 mark of the third.
Aberdeen will return to the ice next Saturday when it travels to Huron. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
