Aberdeen Cougar Hockey
Hear the Roar!!
Dear Hockey Parents,
There is exciting news regarding South Dakota Hockey. On April 7th
to the 11th of 2010, South Dakota will be sending a team made up of
players born in 1995 and 1996 (U-14) to Wayne, NJ to compete in the
USA Hockey Tier II National Tournament.
All players born in the years of 1995 and 1996 are invited to tryout
for this team. Tryouts will be taking place on August 29th at the
Brookings Ice facility. Check in is at 9 AM and the first session
will begin at 10 AM until 11:30. The second session will be at 2 PM
until 3:30. We will announce the team as soon as possible at the
conclusion of the tryouts.
We will be charging $25.00 to offset the cost of the tryouts and
payment to be made at the tryouts. Checks only please, and made out
to SDAHA.
We are hoping to get sponsorships that will offset much of the costs
that this team will endure. We want the best players on this team,
and not only the ones who can afford to play.
If your player makes the team, there will be practices held in
September along with games in September and October (weekends only).
As soon as the regular hockey season begins in South Dakota, we will
suspend practice and games until the first of March, when the season
has ended. We will practice and play games during the month of
March.
To qualify for the tournament, the team must play in 20 games and
each player must participate in 10 games. This is the reason for
playing before and after the season.
USA Hockey has changed the way they run the National Tournament. For
the first time, USA Hockey will award 4 National Champions in each
age group based upon the division the team plays in. We are in a
division with the following states: Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona,
Nebraska, Iowa, Vermont, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
If your player is interested in trying out for the team, please
e-mail me at: my3sons@alliancecom.net or p.douglas.clark@morganstanley.com.
Any questions, call 605-376-0393.
Please be honest about your players ability prior to deciding to
tryout or not. This will be a serious team with one goal, and that
is to bring home the National Championship to South Dakota.
Regards,
Doug Clark
SDAHA National Tournament Chairman
**Skate sharpening -- From this point
forward we will be requiring that all skate sharpening done at the
rink be paid for.
Skate sharpening punch cards will be for sale in the Concessions,
Cougar Store or from Rink Committee members. The cost is $20 dollars
for 8 sharpenings with a card which is $2.50 per sharpening. It will
cost $3.00 for those paying cash, so it is more cost effective to
purchase the cards. We will no longer sharpen skates without either
a card or cash.
